Water is an essential ingredient needed for the human body to function, which is why maintaining high quality water straight from the tap is particularly important. The Kraków Water company (Wodociągi Miasta Krakowa) makes every effort to ensure that the quality of Kraków’s tap water is at the highest possible level.
The water that reaches Kraków’s taps, through a supply network that is now more than 2,300 km long, is subject to a multi-stage treatment process. Water safety is guaranteed by the monitoring carried out by the Kraków Water’s Central Laboratory (Centralne Laboratorium WMK S.A.). Each year, our employees perform more than 80,000 water analyses.
The Central Laboratory carries out tests in accordance with the following legislation:
• Regulation of the Minister of Health of 7 December 2017 on the quality of water intended for human consumption (Journal of Laws of 2017, item 2294)
• Regulation of the Minister of Marine Economy and Inland Navigation of 29 August 2019 on the requirements to be met by surface waters used to supply the population with water intended for human consumption (Journal of Laws of 2019, item 1747)
• Regulation of the Minister of Health of 31 March 2011 on natural mineral waters, spring waters and table waters (Journal of Laws of 2011, No 85, item 466)
• Directive of the European Parliament and of the Council on the quality of water intended for human consumption (DWD 98/83 and DWD 2020/2184)
